Lace up your skates and hit the ice as Salute the Season kicks off with Rady Children’s Ice Rink at Liberty Station’s Central Promenade from now until January 6th, 2019. The ice rink is open every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas from 10 am and 10 pm and closes at 5 pm on Christmas Eve. All proceeds from the ice rink benefit the Rady Children’s Hospital’s Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, which has raised more than $1 million over the past 19 years. Skate as long as you wish, then visit one of Liberty Station’s restaurants, breweries or the Liberty Public Market for nearly unlimited food and beverage choices. Tickets are $13 – $15 and include skates and helmet rental.
SUSPIRIA The ingénue is Dakota Johnson rather than Jessica Harper; the score is by the Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke instead of Goblin; and the visual stylishness comes courtesy of the director Luca Guadagnino (“Call Me by Your Name”). European CGI doesn’t have a great reputation with those reared on Disney, DreamWorks and Pixar. But the Lauensteins know their stuff and the settings for this enjoyable romp owe much to the Barbizon School of rustic realism. There’s something pleasingly familiar about the protagonists, too, with Marnie being Garfield without the stripes, Elvis resembling Griswald from Top Cat, Anton being a dead ringer for Donkey from the Shrek movies, and Eggbert bringing to mind Rocky from Peter Lord and Nick Park’s Chicken Run (2000).
The webbing industry maintains a 3:1 safety ratio between the Breaking Strength and the WLL of a tie-down. This is not the same as a 3:1 mechanical advantage gained in a rope system for example, through the use of pulleys. The 3:1 safety ratio means that loads on these tie-downs should not exceed one-third of the tool’s Breaking Strength. If you have ratchet strap tool with a Breaking Strength of 10,000 pounds, don’t think you have a WLL of 10,000 pounds. Working with the 3:1 ratio, a tool that has a Breaking Strength of 10,000 pounds would have a WLL of 3,330. It is likely that some component on the unit will fail if the load ever approached or reached the 10,000-pound Breaking Strength. Don’t be confused!
